What we do in our local community, if you have an event you would like us to attend please get in touch.
Cardiff Racing decided after our 10th year the chassis should be saved and immortalized as our new show car. After a very successful competition and subsequent testing the existing vinyl was not up to standard so we undertook an ambitious project. To incorporate our community outreach events into this show car it was decided to get visitors to our stalls at fairs and children at schools we visited over the next year would be asked to draw their very own dragons which would then all be printed onto the CR10 in her new form. Many thanks to everyone who drew a dragon and we look forward to showing them off at coming events.
Every year Cardiff Racing attends many local primary and secondary schools to encourage pupils to take an interest in the world of maths, science and engineering. Cardiff Racing presents the team to the school alongside its car and display. The team members explain the different aspects of the event, how we design, manufacture and test the car.
Tailoring each event to the target audience we often bring along many other components of past cars to excite all ages. We can teach students about wings, engines, suspension, weight saving and much more. If pupils are really lucky, we also sometimes bring along our simulator for them to have a go in.
We also regularly take students on a weeks work experience within the university - let us know if you're interested.
F1 in schools provides an exciting yet challenging educational experience through the magnetic appeal of Formula One. Teams of students aged 9 to 19 deploy CAD/CAM software to collaborate in the design, analysis, manufacture, testing and then racing of miniature gas powered balsa wood F1 cars.
Cardiff Racing has a significant involvement in the South Wales region, attending the maritime museum in Swansea that plays host to the regional finals for the area.
This year our team members will display our team at the event whilst also aiding the the marshalling and judging of the event. The powerpoint we gave to inspire the teams is shown below - we are always looking for other events so please get in touch if we can help you.
For the BA Science and Engineering week, Cardiff Racing visits Techniquest in Cardiff Bay to present our car and team to the public. We give the opportunity for hands on experience, Q&A and involvement with our stand; even the chance to sit in a real racing car to promote science and technology to a younger audience.
The event is always very popular with all ages of the public, with our stand attracting lots of positive interest and attention. Each year Cardiff Racing provides an enjoyable and informative display, which educates our audience with engineering knowledge whilst also advertising Cardiff University.
At many of Cardiff Racing's events, such as those at Techniquest, it is decided to take along our "Simulator" to give visitors a feel of what it would feel like to be in a running Formula Student car. The Sim is made from a carbon fiber front monocoque made to the same dimensions as CR10's monocoque to comply with the FSAE rules. This solution has been designed to only require a single plug to power and to easily fit into a pickup for easy transportation.
Cardiff Racing is always proud to represent our team, University and sponsors at many events however near of far they may be.
At our events we always attract a crowd with displays of our 3D printer, show car, simulator, posters, giveaways and friendly team members.
Reinforcing engineering throughout the community is something we believe strongly in the importance of. If you have an event that you would like us to be present at then please let us know. We can cater to your needs and focus on your target audience so that our sponsors gain the most from a partnership with our team.
